What is health really? What is disease all about? What is the difference?

I recently listened to a recorded interview with a homeopath at the Glasgow Homeopathic Hospital in Scotland, Bob Lockeridge. He spoke about how he felt at the end of his first year as a practising GP. He spoke of all the diseases he was treating. But it struck him quite forcibly that he wasn’t making his patients healthy. He was simply treating disease.

“When the timing is right, the teacher will appear.” He was becoming dissatisfied with his work as a GP at the same time a brochure came onto his desk about a homeopathic course for GPs. Not only did he attend, but he found that when he told his patients he was using homeopathy, they flooded to see him. Many told him they were using it already, but didn’t like to tell him in case he disapproved.

Isn’t that interesting? People were happy to start to take control of their lives by reaching out for an effective alternative to medicine, but still looked upon the GP as the one who knows more than they do.

Everyone is on a journey. No one is right or wrong. Because everyone is learning. And when we have learned one lesson, it’s time to move on to the next, which will always have deeper implications.

An obvious move forward, is to learn to trust our own inner wisdom, our own intuition. This has been well and truly submerged in the ‘civilised’ world we live in. Which means it can take some time to bring it back, and lots of mistakes, before we can trust it again.

“One man’s meat is another man’s poison.” The ‘experts’ treat everyone alike. You are treated the same as millions of others. Are you the same? You may look similar as you are part of the collective unconscious of humanity. But of course, you aren’t the same. You had a unique childhood with all the experiences. Your genetic inheritance is unique. Your experiences and environment are personal to you. Look at two siblings. Are they the same?

So let’s get back to the question of what is health, or what is disease? To a homeopathic way of thinking, disease is simply a way that your body is showing you that you are out of natural balance or natural harmony. It is simply a messenger, that all is not well.

Messengers have long been the brunt of human wrath, and the disease as a messenger is also subject to this wrath. The anti drugs are aimed at shooting this messenger. But the disharmony remains, because it was never recognised.

You need a shift in the way you think of disease. It is an opportunity to really become healthy. Not to simply get rid of the physical problem.

A man who recently consulted me, told me he had brought his blood pressure down from 140/95 to 120/80 simply by cutting out processed sugar and processed fats in his diet.

Your disease is the messenger, but also your teacher. Listen to it. Be open to the message. Then take appropriate action. Appropriate for you, that is.

Homeopathic treatment looks beyond the ailment, the pathology, to the cause of the problem. It looks for your unique expression of that ailment. It looks to see how you have handled life since. It looks for any areas in your life that may be making it worse. Or better. Homeopathic treatment is deep. It transcends the pathology to what is preventing your body from healing itself. If you like the blockage, that prevents you moving forward.
